High-Speed Rail Under Scrutiny: Secretary Duffy Announces Federal Funds Investigation

Assemblyman Lackey Backs Secretary Duffy’s Probe into High-Speed Rail Spending.

LOS ANGELES – Today, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, joined by Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale), visited the Los Angeles Union Station to announce the launch of a compliance review into the $4 billion in federal funds allocated to the mismanaged High-Speed Rail Project, which has been plagued by severe financial negligence and delays.

Assemblyman Tom Lackey spoke in support of the Secretary’s investigation:

“Imagine the High Speed Rail project as a remodel on your home. If the contractor told you the price was going to be three times what you agreed to, with no completion date in sight. Would you continue?” Assemblyman Lackey questioned.

The High-Speed Rail was initially estimated to cost $38 billion, but projections have now skyrocketed to as much as $128 billion. After 15 years and billions of taxpayer dollars spent, not a single mile of usable track has been completed.

“With costs spiraling out of control and no end in sight, the Secretary’s investigation is long overdue. We must ensure that taxpayer dollars are not wasted on a project that has failed to deliver its promises” concluded Lackey.
